Welcome to the Deep Literacy blog, started auspiciously on the anniversary of Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay becoming the first men to reach the top of Mount Everest in 1953, JFK’s birthday (1917) and the beginning of the end of the Nixon administration since on this day in 1974 Nixon agreed to turn over 1,200 pages of edited Watergate transcripts.
Today is also the day when Constantinople falls to Muhammad II, ending the Byzantine Empire, in 453 and Charles II is restored to the English throne, succeeding the short-lived Commonwealth, 1,207 years later.
I did not plan to start this blog on any special anniversary, but I decided to have a look at ‘this day in history’ as a Google search and I clicked on historynet.com/today-in-history which provided the events above. news.yahoo.com/today-history is also a good resource.
It’s amazing what we can find out with a few clicks round the web.
